Dublin 18 Toastmasters Club was established in 2015. Since then nearly 100 members choose a path to the personal and professional growth through bettering their communication.

Typical Toastmasters meeting

There can be a variety of ways to run a meeting and each club has its own personality, so the outline below is more indicative rather than prescriptive. The agenda can get changed to inject interest and fun for the members, so the meeting layout below is how meetings are mostly run, but, not always.

Welcome

Conversation, coffee, tea

The Failte Officer welcomes everyone to the meeting giving them information on the facilities available and then introduces the President.

8:00 PM

Introduction

By Toastmaster of the night

President calls the meeting to order and welcomes everyone, including guests by name.
Then Toastmaster of the day introduces the people who are filling the meeting roles. These include, Grammarian, Ah-Counter, Timer, General Evaluator, Speech Evaluators. Each person explains their role.

8:15 PM

Part 1 of evening

Speeches and Table Topics
Toastmaster introduces the first and second Speakers and their Evaluators and asks for one minutes silence after each speech to enable members to give feedback to the speaker.
Toastmaster introduces the Table Topics Master, who runs this impromptu speaking part of the evening.

8:45 PM

Break

Coffee, tea, snacks

There is a network break in the middle of the meeting for members to socialise and get to
know each other better.

9:00 PM

Part 2 of evening

Speeches and Evaluations

Toastmaster introduces the third and fourth Speakers and their Evaluators and asks for one minutes silence after each speech to enable members to give feedback to the speaker.
At this point of the evening, the Toastmaster starts to call on the reports from the Grammarian, Ah-Counter, Timer, General Evaluator, Speech Evaluators.

The President thanks everyone for being at the meeting and presents awards, then gives details of time, date and location of next meeting.

Which path is suitable for your growth?

Toastmasters program is organised around 11 paths and of them, each contains various projects focusing on developping specific skills related to your goals.

All new members have access to detailed descriptions of each path and a test to help out determine which path will bring the most value to the new member.

Tracking the progress and planning speeches ahead are also available for members on their accounts.

Toastmasters materials on specific speech preparation and points to look at when evaluating one own speech before delivery are proven to be helpful.

Each of our meetings is special – due to variety of Paths chosen by our members.  We have a privilege to experience workshops, debates, humorous speeches, presentations, reports… and many, many more.

How will I choose the learning path?

You can use a test designed to look into your needs to see most suitable Pathway for your growth. Please do not hesitate to ask your fellow members for advise and experience on thair paths!

When and where the D18 Toastmasters meet?

D18 Toastmasters Club meetings take place two times a month. We are currently changing our venue – the information about it will be shared ASAP.

Is there a membership fee?

Yes, there is a yearly subscription of €190 for members. The money covers the venue and other expenses. 

What is the Icebreaker?

The Icebreaker is the first speech a new member delivers on the Club meeting. It can be around any topic you feel comfortable to speak about. If you are moving to next path – an Icebreaker will be your first speech as well. 

Is there an age restriction for members?

Yes. Members of Toastmaster club have to be 18+. If you are younger – please check Youth Leadership Program
